Lil Wayne admits that he was a fan of Missy Elliott long before he knew about Jay Z

“I was into Missy Elliott before I even knew there was a Jay-Z” – Lil Wayne

Rapper and record executive Lil Wayne admits during the interview that he was a fan of Missy Elliott long before he knew about JAY-Z for Sunday night’s TV One season finale of UNCENSORED, which will star the legendary female rapper.

Wayne reportedly states, “I was into Missy Elliott as a kid before Jay — this was before I even knew a Jay-Z existed,” according to Bossip.

Wayne continues, saying:

Yes, and you realize it’s because you were able to articulate things while rapping that I would like to sаy. I didn’t just enjoy it; you made me adore it. And you piqued my curiosity so much. And the thing that occurred was that I didn’t realize you were really spitting like when I purchased the CD. You understand what I meаn. You are aware that I always spew that verse at you. I would thus listen to you and Cee-Lo Green a lot at that time.

Elliott asks Wayne on the impact of the release of his seminal album Tha Carter III on his career in another segment of the talk. He answered,

“I believe that was maybe the first moment we noticed— for me, at least, I began really receiving that recognition and beginning to accept…Embracing and loving it. I’m observingjust from hearing from other artists or from seeing people on the street, so in reality, the confidence was pretty powerful.

“I remember the times when, as musicians, we used to read the Billboard magazine to find out where this and that was happening. We were Juvenile and B.G. That’s no longer the case,” Lil Wayne said. “I remember thinking, ‘I can’t do nothing but thank God,’ when we released Tha Block Is Hоt; it sold like 114,000 or 95,000 the first week, which was the equivalent or the impact of selling a million.”
